I remember my first time that I encountered Alzheimer in my family. I was sitting around the table with my grandfather and father in Holland in the Spring of 1987. I was telling my grandfather that I was moving to Canada to work in Banff for one year.
We had a nice conversation about my travel plans and what I was going to be doing there. Part way through the conversation my grandfather looked over at my dad (his son) and asked him "who are you!" I was stunned to see and hear that. Although I left soon thereafter, I did recognize several other incidents like that. He past away in that year, but that memory is still very strong even after 30 years in Canada.
Working in the senior industry here in Calgary, I can see the impact that Alzheimer has on families and friends. So it is important that we raise money to have better funding for Alzheimer research.
