To my Friends and Family,
Most of you know my dad has Alzheimer’s and this last few months have been especially hard on our family. You don’t really find out how hard it is to take care of someone with this horrible disease until you have to live with them and help take care of them. Our family made the hard decision to put dad in a care home where he has professional help 24 hours a day. When you find out that your loved one has Alzheimer’s you don’t know what to do, how can I help them, what can I do so they don’t feel scared, how do I handle myself around them. And so many other questions come to you. I was lost and didn’t really know what to do and then a friend of mine had told me about the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary so I reached out to them. The information they gave me helped without them I don’t know where we would be. They even have people there that when you feel so overwhelmed and don’t know what to do, you can call them and they will listen even if it’s just to cry. I know because I did just that this summer. They also told me about the support groups they offer and the group we chose to go to well I can’t see my life without them now, they are like family to me. They helped us with almost every step we have had to take with dad and they still do. So I am Walking around my neighborhood on thanksgiving Sunday (with Roxy of course) to help try to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary. Because without them I don’t know where I would be. They help so many families and the scary part is the number of people that are getting diagnosed with this horrible disease is rising fast. Even if it’s only a couple dollars it all adds up.
Thank you so much to all of you for being there for us during this very hard time on my family it means the world to all of us. Love you all.
