I am walking to raise money and awareness about Alzheimers, the disease that is slowly taking my Mother.
Alzheimer’s disease is a fatal disease that eventually affects all aspects of a person’s life: how they think, feel, and act. Each person is affected differently. It is difficult to predict symptoms, the order in which they will appear, or the speed of their progression.
The statistics are concerning and we must do more to find a cure:
The number of Canadians with dementia being cared for in hospitals even though this is not an ideal location for care
Canadians are currently living with dementia
The number of Canadians who will be living with the disease in 15 years
The number of Canadians affected directly or indirectly by the disease
The annual cost to Canadians to care for those living with dementia
